Humenné Manor House
The town of Humenné, one of the historical centres of the Zemplín region, is adorned by a Renaissance manor house of imposing size. The residence guarded by two bronze lions was commissioned to be built by the wealthy and powerful Drugeth family. One of the members of this family named Valentín Drugeth became popular among the pious Zemplín people. It is said, that this man once, in a fit of anger, burned down the local Basilian monastery and the only thing that miraculously survived the fire was an icon of the Mother of God. The icon then started shedding tears and did so until Valentín, suffering from a mysterious illness, had had built a new monastery for the Basilians. These days the building is used by the Vihorlat Museum. Their beautiful exhibitions show the housing culture of the nobility from the Renaissance era all the way up to the twentieth century, as well as sacral arts, the fauna of the Zemplín region, or the works of Orest Dubay, a renowned Slovak graphic designer. Adjacent to the manor house spreads an exquisite English park with a fish pond. Further behind the park lies a very well-kept open-air museum, run by the Vihorlat Museum, focused on vernacular architecture.

A veru tých bolo viac než dosť. Čo izba to nástenné a stropné maľby.
