The Great Manor House in Budimír

The picturesque town of Budimír located in the east of Slovakia is adorned by the attractive Great Manor House surrounded by a well-kept French park. This typical Theresan building from the eighteenth century nowadays houses a very interesting exhibition run by the Slovak Technical Museum that shows period furniture and paintings and an extensive collection of antique clocks as well. One of the most precious items of the collection is a clock in the shape of a painting. It is a picture of Slovak countryside with strolling couples, a working clock tower and a mill. The clock is wound up by a chain that represents the water flowing through the millwheel. As far as original paintings are concerned, there is an estimated twenty such pieces in the whole of Europe. Not far from the Great Budimír Manor House is Budimír’s second manor house, the Small Manor House. Unlike its bigger counterpart, this very old Rococo building later refreshed in the Classicist style can only be admired from the outside, because it is closed to the public.
