Čabraď castle

The ruins of Čabraď Castle are spread on a rock spur above the town of Čabradský Vrbovok in the middle of Krupina Highland. The spur is surrounded by one of the meanders of Litava River and offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding countryside. The trail to this castle leads through Čabraď National Nature Reserve where visitors can admire its untouched nature with the highest number of naturally occurring reptiles in Slovakia. There is a legend connected with Čabraď Castle about a local man who was working in the castle as a weather forecaster. He was an excellent forecaster and his forecasts were very accurate, but only up to a point when sloth and pride got the better of him. One day, he carelessly forecast a sunny day and the lord of the castle got caught out in a rainstorm. The drenched lord then angrily sent him away and replaced him with a donkey that would refuse to go out of its stable when the weather was going to be bad.
