Calvary in Banská Štiavnica

The most beautiful and most impressive Calvary of Slovakia is located on the top of a picturesque hill of Banská Štiavnica. This Calvary consists of three churches in Baroque style, nineteen chapels and a statue of the Virgin Mary. It used to be an important place of pilgrimage. Today it serves as a recreational and educational place. In the premises of the Lower church there is an exhibition that acquaints visitors with the history and present of this magical place. The Calvary of Banksá Štiavnica is a part of a territory, which belongs to UNESCO World Heritage. Since 2007 the Calvary has been on the list of 100 most endangered monuments in the world.
