St. Elisabeth Cathedral, central and dominant symbol of Kosice, the largest and for many the most beautiful church in Slovakia. It is also the easternmost Gothic cathedral in the world. The church has a long and rich history. They built it in the 14th-16th centuries and in the Middle Ages it became an important place of pilgrimage: There is a copy of the famous icon  shedding tears from the Hungarian town Pócz, particle from the cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified and the relics of Hungarian saint, St. Elizabeth, and Andrew the Apostle. A unique feature is the side altar of the Holy Cross, probably the only metal altar in Europe. This altar consecrated in 1931 to commemorate the victims of World War I, allegedly it was cast from weapons that were used in this war.
(NOTE: St. Elisabeth Cathedral can be visited within a religious service or go sightseeing the city, which provides Košice Visitor Center.)
