Ostrý Kameň Castle

Not far from the town of Buková, on a hill in Small Carpathians a dense forest conceals the majestic remains of Ostrý Kameň Castle. These woods were once the home of an infamous brigand named Hrajnoha. According to a folk-tale, it was also the forest where an old witch used to collect firewood. Once she wandered off and came across the ruins of Ostrý Kameň where she discovered an underground chamber filled with glorious treasure. She did not waste any time and ran to fetch her seven sons to help her carry away the riches. When the sons filled their bags and ran outside, they turned around to see the walls crumbling, burying alive their greedy mother, who was still stuffing her bottomless bag. Visitors to Ostrý Kameň today would just waste their time if they wanted to find any of the gold. However, those passionate about history or nature are definitely going to enjoy themselves. Apart from the ruins, visitors can also go to the nearby Havrania Skala that offers a unique view of Smolenice Castle, the Danubian Lowland or of the popular Buková Water Reservoir.
